Top 10 Rust Explosives

Useful

In Rust, explosives are your ticket into other players’ bases. Without them, you can only break wood, twig, or soft-sided stone walls. Here’s the updated 2025 ranking of the most effective explosives, complete with real damage values and practical uses.

Landmine

The only explosive here that’s useless for raiding — it deals no meaningful structural damage. However, it instantly kills anyone (except players in full HQM armor) who steps on it.
Best use: base perimeter defense, hidden traps near doors or paths to your base.

Incendiary Rocket

Won’t scratch HQM, but will burn down a wooden door or wall in seconds. The fire blocks passage and inflicts continuous damage, making the area impassable. Great for burning out turret rooms.
Effectiveness: wooden door or wall — 1 rocket.

Beancan Grenade

Cheap but unreliable — sometimes they fail to detonate. You’d need a pile of them to take down a door or wall.
Effectiveness: sheet metal door — 13+ grenades; stone wall — dozens.
Bonus: essential for crafting satchels.

F1 Grenade

More predictable than beancans — it always explodes after a fixed timer. Low structural damage but enough to finish off weakened pieces, like a wooden door under 50 health.
PvP use: great for clearing rooms and flushing enemies out.

Satchel Charge

The first truly serious raiding explosive.

  • Wooden door — 2 satchels.
  • Stone wall — ~10 satchels.
  • Sheet metal door — 4 satchels.
  • Sometimes duds and needs reigniting.

Downside: loud, attracting unwanted attention.

Multiple Grenade Launcher (MGL)

Rare, uncraftable weapon that fires six HE grenades. Each grenade does damage similar to multiple explosive ammo shots, with splash.
Effectiveness: wooden door — 3–4 shots; stone wall — ineffective.
Primary use: PvP and room clearing.

High Velocity Rocket (HV Rocket)

Much faster than a regular rocket but with minimal structural damage. Won’t reasonably break a stone wall or metal door.
Best for: shooting down helicopters, finishing damaged structures, long-range PvP pressure.

The go to for quiet raids with a silencer:

  • Wooden door — ~10 rounds.
  • Sheet metal door — ~63 rounds.
  • Stone wall — ~139 rounds.
  • HQM wall — ~400 rounds.

Note: craftable only at a tier 3 workbench.

Rocket

The classic raid tool:

  • Wooden door — 1 rocket.
  • Sheet metal door — 1 rocket.
  • Stone wall — 2 rockets.
  • HQM wall — 8 rockets.

Plus: splash damage allows you to hit multiple structures at once.

C4 (Timed Explosive Charge)

The king of Rust explosives:

  • Wooden door, stone wall, sheet metal door — 1 C4.
  • Armored door — 2 C4.
  • HQM wall — 4 C4.

Detonates ~10 seconds after placement. Fast and precise, but expensive to craft.

c4 rust

C4 and rockets are for fast, loud raids. Explosive ammo is for stealth. The rest are situational or budget-friendly tools.
